Nokia Custom Dictionary App Announced

Nokia is coming out with a new app with the Nokia Custom Dictionary. This is a beta version for the Symbian S60 3rd and 5th edition smartphones which promises to help out users in editing the list of words that would come out for Nokia’s text prediction features. Aside from this, users can import words from xml files and transfer dictionaries between phones.

The app has limited functionality and is compatible with the following phones: Nokia E63, Nokia E71, Nokia 5800 XpressMusic and Nokia X6.

Nokia X3 Cell Phone Review–Great Phone With Design Issues

I’ll lead right off today by saying that I love the Nokia X3, one of which the folks out at PureMobile sent my way. It’s a great phone with a whole lot of nifty options, but one unpleasant flaw–its design.

The Nokia X3 is a slider-style cell phone with an FM radio, clock, calendar, organizer, Internet access, access to the Nokia OVI store, size converter, temperature converter, currency converter, world clock, Flickr access, a collection of games, a 3.2 megapixel camera and a few more nifty things besides.

Like I said, this is a great phone with lots of options–the radio’s got some pretty good reach to it–but the design is one I don’t much care for. The radio scans for channels five hundredths of a frequency at a time. So if you want to tune from 99.3 to 99.8, you’ll have to go from 99.35 to 99.40 and so on until you get there. No scrolling, either–just one button press after another. The keypad also has some ridges between keys to separate them. I find they get in the way more than help.

But all things considered, the Nokia X3 is a great cell phone.

Nokia 2710 Navigation Edition

Nokia has launched yet another mobile phone, this time codenamed 2710 Navigation Edition.

As the name suggests, this is a navigation phone and is the cheapest that Nokia has to offer. It will cost approximately $160 and will become available in the second quarter of 2010.

In terms of features the 2710 boasts a 2.0-megapixel camera, a GPS and digital compass that provide turn-by-turn directions, FM radio, 3.5mm jack for headphones, and much more.

RoadPilot Mobile for Nokia

RoadPilot is a popular company in Europe that manufacturers a GPS radar that is capable of detecting and alerting speed camera detectors. They just launched a new version called RoadPilot Mobile that works with Nokia software, but in the near future there will be more devices supporting the application, like Samsungs and Sony Ericssons.

The usefulness of the RoadPilot Mobile is being able to alert the driver in real time about where are the speed cameras or police cars. This version of Road Pilot supports the following Nokia devices: N95, N95 8GB, N78, N79, N82, N85, N96, E66, E71, E75, 6110 Navigator, 6210 Navigator and the 6220 Classic.

Nokia bringing E72 and 5800 to the United States

Nokia is planning on bringing two of their phones to the United States. The phones in question are the E72 and the 5800 Navigation Edition.

The 5800 is available starting now, but the E72 is “coming soon” according to Nokia’s webstore. The E72 seems elusive as far as when that will be available in the States. In fact, Nokia has previously announced that the E72 would be coming to the U.S., and it didn’t happen. We’ll see what happens from here.

Nokia N900 Now Official in the USA

Nokia’s new Maemo toy, the N900, has been officially announced for the American public. We don’t have subsidized offers to show you yet as no carrier is willing to sell the phone at this point. The N900 will be available through Nokia’s flagship stores in New York and Chicago or online. The official price is $649 but for that price you’ll walk away with an unlocked N900 phone. What do you say? Do you love Maemo 5 so much that you’d be willing to pay so much cash for the phone? Or would you rather get an iPhone, a Droid or a Hero instead?

Nokia launches first phone based on China 3G standard

Some of you may not be aware that China is unique when it comes to 3G technology. Specifically, China developed their own domestic 3G standard which has to be an absolute joy for mobile phone manufacturers since they have yet another 3G standard to develop a handset around.

Nokia, being the team player they are, stepped up to the challenge and has announced its first device for China’s 3G standard (TD-SCDMA). This week at a Beijing launch event the company revealed the Nokia 6788, which was was developed in partnership with the country’s largest mobile phone operator, China Mobile. The phone is expected to be available by the end of the year.

I could go into some of the specifics of the phone such as the five mega-pixel camera or its Symbian S60 operating system, but at the end of the day if you don’t live in China you will never see this phone. And it’s too bad because it looks like a nice enough handset.
