The Samsung Infuse 4G has quickly become the best AT&T has to offer. Iwas a little dubious when it was first announced, thanks to that 4.5-inch screen size. But in practicality, the thinness of the phone more than makes up for it being a bit oversized. You really do have to try it to believe it. And, oh, that camera. That sweet, sweet camera.

Froyo is Froyo, and Touchwiz is Touchwiz. I expect to see custom ROMs in the near future, and a Gingerbread update is likely relatively soon (and hopefully Ice Cream Sandwich next year). And while i’d love to have seen a dual-core processor, the 1.2GHz chip is plenty fast.

The only real niggle i have with the Infuse doesn’t actually have that much to do with the phone. AT&T hopefully will get its 4G strategy figured out, and it might even do so with actual data speed, and not marketing jargon. I can only hope.

But the name aside, know this: if you’re looking for an Android phone on AT&T, you can’t do any better than the Infuse 4G.

The Samsung Infuse 4G is a good phone. I really liked the comfort and image-quality of its huge display, and the good battery life. The industrial design is clean, and the phone is even lighter than smaller phones like the iPhone 4. All those qualities are big advantages for most Android users in search for a comfortably big display.

On the downside, I think that, at times, the responsiveness of the phone did get to me. I’m used to more responsive phones, and to be honest, I’m not really sure how other people would react to it. It’s probably best to try it for yourself in a store, but keep in mind that in-store phones don’t have many apps installed, so they to represent the “best case” scenario.

In the end, it’s likely that prospect users will be mainly attracted by the display size which is the truly unique feature of this phone. If not, there are a lot of choices on the market, notably the Nexus S, or the Droid Incredible 2.

AT&T’s $15 smartphone data plan makes this phone a great affordable option for parents looking to save some money but still get a cute and capable smartphone for their child. Is it for high school or college students? Possibly. Affordability is still a huge factor with that demographic, and the Veer can can definitely keep up with a fast crowd, though the lack of apps could be more of an issue here. Is it for young professionals? That’s doubtful. WebOS is strong where productivity and PIM are concerned, but the tiny display on the Veer 4G is not good at all when it comes to email and other text-heavy functions.

As a fashion accessory, the Veer is great. It’s a cute phone phone that will definitely attract attention when it’s pulled out. The problem is that people looking for a smartphone and a fashion accessory typically opt for the iPhone, and I’m not sure there are many valid arguments for the Veer 4G over an iPhone in the eyes of a consumer looking for a fashion accessory.

During Mobile World Congress in Barcelona today, HTC announced the Incredible S, the successor to the popular HTC Incredible smartphone that made its debut on Verizon Wireless in the United States.

The Incredible S sports a larger 4-inch WVGA Super LCD display. It’s also equipped with an 8MP camera with dual-LED flash that’s capable of recording HD video. The Incredible S is equipped with a 1.3MP forward-facing camera, too, for initiating face-to-face video chats.

HTC expects the Incredible S to be broadly available across Europe and Asia during the second quarter of this year. There’s no word where it will be offered in the U.S. but the handset does support the T-Mobile AWS spectrum.

During Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, HTC announced a number of new smartphones. Among those is the HTC Desire S.

The HTC Desire S is the successor to the original HTC Desire and was sculpted out of a single block of aluminum. It’s powered by Qualcomm’s 1GHz 8255 Snapdragon processor and has a 3.7-inch display with a WVGA resolution.

HTC says the phone offers a front-facing camera for video chat and another 5MP camera for recording HD video. HTC says the Desire S is expected to be broadly available across Europe and Asia during the second quarter of this year.

HTC has finally let the wraps off of the famously chatted about “Facebook phone.” The newly announced HTC ChaCha isn’t exactly a Facebook-branded phone, but it does have a compelling one-touch button that will launch into Facebook’s HTC Sense-integrated services.

If there’s an opportunity to share a freshly snapped photo, for example, the Facebook button will glow. You’ll be able to tap the button to update your status, share a photo, share a website, or check-in to a location, among other options. If you tap the phone while listening to a song, for example, you can automatically share the song title with friends.

The ChaCha runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread and the device also sports a full QWERTY keyboard, a small 2.6-inch 480 x320 pixel resolution display, and a 5MP camera with auto-focus with LED flash. HTC also equipped the ChaCha with a forward-facing VGA camera for video chatting.

HTC expects the ChaCha to be available globally beginning in the second quarter of this year.

HTC, during Mobile World Congress today, revealed a tiny new Android smartphone called the Wildfire S.

The Wildfire S is the successor to the original Wildfire, a similar version of which sold as the HTC Aria on AT&T in the United States. It offers a small 3.2-inch display with an HVGA resolution and is just 101.3mm (3.9in) long and 59.4mm (2.23in) wide.

The Wildfire S sports a 5MP camera with auto-focus, as well as an expandable microSD card slot for adding additional storage. It will launch in black, purple, and white.

HTC expects that the Wildfire S will be available in European and Asian markets during the second quarter of this year.

Summary

While not offering a huge, high-resolution display like some other higher-end Android smartphones, the Motorola DROID Pro for Verizon Wireless sets itself apart with its form factor and its ability to work not only on Verizon’s CDMA based network in the U.S., but to also roam onto GSM and UMTS 3G networks world wide.

What the DROID Pro might lack in the “ooh la la” sex appeal department, it more than makes up for when it comes time to get some serious work done. No Android device is likely as efficient as the DROID Pro when it comes to messaging tasks and ease of use for a business user. The keyboard, which is always available, virtually ensures that.

But the phone is not without problems, such as inconsistent performance when it comes to call audio quality. But the phone’s reception seems strong, and the phone can even be used as a 3G Wi-Fi hotspot, which is another thing business users will like. In the end, it is a really good device with one or two issues.

From a hardware perspective, the Motorola DROID Pro is quite unlike most other Android smartphone. While many will refer to its design as “BlackBerry-like,” the fact that its display is oriented vertically distinguishes it from most other smartphones on the market, Android-based or not.

The 3.1-inch HVGA (320 x 480 pixel) display that the DROID Pro features is nothing particularly special. It is neither large not particularly high-res, but it is more than sufficient for the task at hand, and anything larger would likely make the device unwieldy. The fact that the 4-row QWERTY keyboard sits so low on the device can already make it somewhat of a handful to use, but that can be overcome with a bit of time.

The keyboard itself is laid out well, with dedicated keys for frequently used punctuation marks, such as the period (full stop), comma, and ‘@’ symbol. The keys offer a nice click when pressed, but are perhaps a bit slick. A matte finish would have worked a bit better, in my opinion, and the same could be said for the slick, glossy rear cover of the phone.

That cover wraps around the 5 megapixel camera and dual-LED flash. It must be removed to gain access to the 1,390mAh battery, the microSD memory card slot (2GB card included with roughly 1GB of storage built-in), and the SIM card that allows it to roam onto GSM and UMTS networks around the world. The right edge of the phone features a shortcut key (defaults to the Calendar) and has no camera shutter button. The volume rocker and micro-USB port are on the left edge, while the power button and 3.5mm headphone jack are located up top.

The design of the DROID Pro is very practical and usable, but is not exactly sexy. I’d have opted for a soft-touch surface on the back of the phone, but otherwise feel Motorola was mostly on the mark. It measures 119 x 61 x 11.7mm (4.7 x 2.4 x .5in) in size, which is long, but pocketable, and weighs 134g (4.7oz).

Verizon Wireless has announced the newest addition to its DROID portfolio, the Motorola DROID BIONIC. The new smartphone packs quite a punch with a speedy dual-core processor and 4G LTE support.

Featuring a a super fast, dual-core processor with up to 2GHz of total processing power, the BIONIC will offer users a quick and smooth user experience when navigating through its Android 2.2 operating system’s screens. The device supports Verizon Wireless’ new 4G LTE network for data throughput speeds that are expected to be up to 10x faster than Verizon’s current 3G network. The BIONIC offers an 8 megapixel camera for video and photos as well as a VGA forward-facing camera for video chatting on the smartphone’s massive 4.3-inch qHD (quarter high definition) touchscreen display.

Other features include HTML5 web browsing, Adobe Flash Player support, HDMI connectivity, and Bluetooth. The Motorola DROID BIONIC is expected to be available in the early second quarter of 2011 with Verizon Wireless.
